Lake Malawi is located in the southern most portion of the Great Rift Valley, stretching across the African continent. The lake was originally created though the natural movement of terrain, filling a huge crevice in the earth. This crystal clear lake is known as a treasure trove of African cichlids. Kamihata's research team visited Lake Malawi, diving its depths with local experts to collect first-hand data on African cichlids. The countless shimmering fish swimming in the transparent water, showing their naturally brilliant, neon colors greatly impressed the research team.
